You do Speak

Do you study a language or do you learn a language? How you answer this question can determine your success in acquiring your second language.

We can all agree that learning a language is not like studying an academic subject. Memorizing vocabulary and sentence structure are only useful for testing your short-term memory. However, it has no effect on your long-term ability to speak the language.

In fact it’s completely opposite of to how our brains learn.

Learning a language is like learning to swim. Can you learn to swim by watching somebody show you how to swim? The most effective way to learn to swim is to get into the water. (번역)
